Autumn/Winter 2018 – what’s new?

What do you think of when we say Autumn/Winter? Colder, darker mornings. The year coming to an end, a chance for new beginnings. Well…..

You know here at North Opticians we adore glasses. When I say adore I mean ADORE – we could talk optics until the cows come home. We’ve recently updated our frames to suit the coming season, so here’s a peek at our new collections!

Rich, jewel-toned colours

We’re a bit spoilt for choice in this category. New glasses in shades of violet, pearl, deep teal blue and burgundy are making our shop feel warm and cosy, but here are two of my favourites.

juneau by etnia barcelona

Juneau by Etnia Barcelona

A really pared back look for this frame, just the outline suggesting cat eye. But what really makes it stand out is the use of colour. Matte teal shifting into purple metal embellishments with honey coloured temple tips – the result is warm and playful!

balvi by etnia barcelona

Balvi by Etnia Barcelona

This frame is reminiscent of the bug eye style popular in the 60’s and 70’s, but updated in it’s simplicity. The contrast between rose gold metal and periwinkle blue acetate looks really stunning, but in keeping a petite frame, the result isn’t overwhelming. A beautiful splash of colour for Autumn/Winter.

Contemporary shapes

Though we like to keep a range of styles here at North, from classic to crazy, a common theme for our new ranges of glasses seems to be edges – we’ve gone for angular frames. These can look fantastic on anyone, and the mix of a hard edge against a rounded point can look beautiful.

Although the shape of this frame is quite traditional, the use of gunmetal titanium to outline clear acetate looks so fresh and light. These glasses would be perfect for someone who wants to steer away from the current trend of bold glasses – subtle and stylish.

This frame is beautiful! Delicate and feminine with a bold edge along the top, the silver at the temples highlights the cheekbone and eye area, contrasting with the warm burgundy. Really lovely on lots of different faces.

Something new

It’s nice to stand out a little bit sometimes, and glasses can be the perfect accessory to show off your personality. The frames below stand out in different ways – which is your style?

It’s the details that really make this frame extraordinary. The etchings in the arms and across the bridge, coloured antique gold, and the screws you can see holding the bridge and nosepads in place, all give a feeling of luxury and workmanship. Added to this, the colour of the acetate compliments the gold perfectly, and has the best name – tea. Just right for Autumn/Winter!

Just look at this frame – how different can you get?! The bright colours (aptly named parrot) are toned down by the matte finish and free space across the top of the frame. These reading glasses are perfect for perching on your nose, and are nice and lightweight.

So there we have it! Just a sample of the new frames available this season here at North Opticians. Pop in soon for a hot cup of coffee and a browse!

Children’s eye tests in Chichester! Are we the best?

Here at North we’re proud to offer free NHS children’s eye tests. It’s a big statement to make, but here’s why we think we offer the best children’s eye tests in Chichester!

  1. We LOVE kids. Helen and Iain have their boys, Gayna and Bina have young children, and Ellie and Angie adore nieces and nephews. It brightens up our day when children come in the shop!
  2. Experience. Between us all here at North, we have over 50 years of experience in working at an opticians, including Iain who has been a fantastic optician for 12+ years. In that time he has been awarded Most Trusted Optician in the UK, and was Contact Lens Retailer of the Year.
  3. Family run = family friendly. Since opening, it has been a point of pride here at North to be described by our patients as warm and welcoming. We want to make you feel at home, and as mentioned before, having young children gives our team first-hand experience of what works and doesn’t work when caring for children’s needs in a retail/medical environment.

Added to those points, we have a gorgeous collection of kid’s frames. Look!

New at North, we have Nano. These frames have been described as ‘kidproof’ and are incredibly hardy. They have patented S-shaped hinges which means no more snapping arms, a soft padded bridge, and you can have the arms 3 different ways – regular arms, a band that attaches to the arms and keeps the glasses firmly on your child’s head, or you can take the arms off altogether and have a band instead! Perfect for sports, playtime, or even a fidgeter.

Nike frames have proven very popular here, especially for older boys. They look grown up, are sporty and have that all-important brand name.

Bulget frames bridge the gap between very young and almost teenage children. They come in lots of fun colours and a variety of frame shapes!

So look no further for children’s eye tests in Chichester – you’ve found the perfect place.

Cat eye glasses – let’s talk about it

Ok, let’s discuss a subject I’m passionate about – cat eye glasses. They’re my very favourite shape, they’re always fashionable and they suit so many different faces!

Cat eye glasses gained popularity in the 1950’s and 60’s, with stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe showing them off to perfection. They look feminine, fun and sophisticated.

Though bug-eyed glasses became the thing during the following decades, cat eye glasses never completely went away, and in recent years have boomed in popularity. They’ve maintained the same basic shape but with a more contemporary feel – think less Dame Edna and more Jennifer Lopez.

What I love about cat eye glasses is how flattering they are – if you are blessed with good cheekbones they accentuate them, if you have a round face (like me) they add angles where there weren’t angles before, they soften a heavier jawline – they uplift your face and look gorgeous!

The Townsend by Walter and Herbert is a perfect example of this classic shape with a modern twist; softer edges, a blue mossy acetate and a gentle uplift make them unmistakably cat eye glasses but in a less dramatic 60’s way.

If you want to go a bit retro, Rusicka by Vinyl Factory are perfect. Rose gold with detailing on the bridge and temples, glossy black wings and VF’s trademark guitar-shaped arms make this a rock n’roll beauty! They’re one of my favourite pairs in the shop so I highly recommend trying them on when you pop in.

Both these lovely frames and more are available at North, come in, say hello and try some on.
